How to Open an XPS File Online
The quickest way to open an XPS file — on any computer, phone or tablet — is to convert it to PDF in your browser. No software to install, no account to create, and it works regardless of whether you are on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android or Chrome OS.
The converter above accepts .xps and .oxps files up to 25 MB each (up to 20 files per batch), produces a standard PDF, and deletes the uploaded file from the server within 60 minutes.
How to use the converter
- Upload your file. Click or tap the upload area and choose the .xps file from your computer, phone or cloud storage. You can also drag and drop on a desktop browser.
- Choose the output format. Select PDF to get a document you can read, print and share, or JPG if you need a page image (for example, to embed in a presentation or website).
- Convert and download. Click Convert. The file is processed on our server and a download link appears within seconds. For multi-page JPG output, the files download as a ZIP.
The whole process takes under a minute on a typical broadband connection.

Up to 20 files at once · 25 MB per file · no watermark · files deleted within 60 minutes.
Which devices and browsers work
The converter is a standard web application with no plugins or browser extensions required. It works in:
- Desktop: Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari on Windows, macOS and Linux
- Mobile: Safari on iPhone and iPad; Chrome on Android phones and tablets
- Chromebook: Chrome on Chrome OS
On mobile, tap the upload area — it acts as a standard file picker, so you can pull the .xps from Downloads, Files, iCloud Drive or Google Drive.
What happens to your file
Files are transferred over HTTPS (encrypted in transit), processed on the server, and deleted automatically within 60 minutes. No account is created, no file is stored permanently, and no person reviews the content. The service is operated by themediaflow Ltd in the UK.
If you have a document that must never leave your device — such as a legal or medical record — use an offline tool instead. On Windows, the XPS Viewer plus Microsoft Print to PDF works without any network connection. On Linux, xpstopdf from the libgxps-utils package is fully offline.
PDF vs JPG: which to choose
Choose PDF if you want to read, annotate, print or forward the document — it keeps the original page layout, the text stays selectable, and every device can open it. Choose JPG if you need a flat image of the page: for instance, to paste it into a Word document, upload it to a website, or share a single-page document as an image file. JPG output is rendered at 300 DPI, one image per page.
The converter does not produce PNG, TIFF or Word/DOCX output directly. For PNG, convert to PDF here first, then use a PDF-to-PNG tool (such as pdftoppm on Linux or GIMP on any platform).
Frequently asked questions
Can I open an XPS file online without downloading any software?
Yes. The XPS2PDF.co.uk converter runs server-side. You upload the file in your browser, it is converted, and you download the PDF — nothing is installed on your device.
What is the maximum file size for the online converter?
25 MB per file. You can upload up to 20 files in a single batch.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The converter works in Safari on iPhone and iPad, and in Chrome on Android. Tap the upload area to pick the file from your Downloads folder, Files app or cloud storage.
Can I convert .oxps files as well as .xps?
Yes. The converter accepts both .xps (original Microsoft format) and .oxps (OpenXPS, ECMA-388).
How long are uploaded files kept on the server?
Files are deleted automatically within 60 minutes of upload. They are transferred over HTTPS and are not reviewed by a person.
I need PNG output, not PDF or JPG. Can the tool do that?
The converter outputs PDF and JPG only. For PNG, convert to PDF here first, then use a PDF-to-PNG tool: pdftoppm on Linux, GIMP on any platform, or Preview on macOS.
